Carrying Our Stories
/As our session began, I asked participants about the disruptive life events that had rocked their world recently.
Here are just a few of the responses…
- “Husband had a stroke”
- “Attempted Suicide”
- “Loss of 4 family members”
- “Birth of a baby”
- “Children needing to be homeschooled”
We have all endured and suffered this year. We carry our stories to work.
And our workplaces, our coworkers, our managers, have a choice. Will they (we) create a place of safety and welcome, where we experience care and support?
Or will we create a place of posturing and fear, where the challenge of living through the pain is only exacerbated by the pressure of having to hide?
Thanks to trueU, Kyle DeFur, and Gretchen Schott for sponsoring such a timely conversation on empathy in the workplace. For members, you can find a recording and resources on the website.
