Haircuts and asking for help
/I was eating an omelet when I noticed that her hair looked different. “Did you cut your hair?” I asked my seven year old.
Yes. She did. Lopped off a chunk in the front. “It was sticking up so much and bothering me; so I just decided to cut it.”
She felt like a hack was the only solution. “Baby, I’d love to help you with that next time. That is something that Mamas are supposed to help their children with, and I actually have some really good (other) ways that you could solve that problem next time.”
It was a reminder that we need community. Right now, the problems: the “sticking up” hair, the declining revenue, the deteriorating relationship, can loom large. And we can feel really alone, without resources.
I hope that you have people out there that you can reach out to. That you have the courage to admit that you need help. And I hope that you can also be one of the helpers: looking for places of need and offering your support, your expertise, and your friendship during this time of isolation.
